Abstract

PALOMINO-ARIAS, Medardo Alfonso. FABRIL INDUSTRY AND ECONOMIC GROWTH OF THE SOVIET UNION: A LOOK THROUGH ECONOMIC HISTORY’S PERSPECTIVE. Semest. Econ. [online]. 2018, vol.21, n.48, pp.179-205. ISSN 0120-6346.  https://doi.org/10.22395/seec.v21n48a7.

This article examines the accelerated industrialization process of the Soviet Union and rejects the idea that the country’s economic power derived from its large size and enormous endowment of natural resources. A summary of the economic historiography of the period of greatest product growth is made and economic theory is used to interpret the behavior of economic growth between 1917 and 1960. Consequently, the paper maintains that the Union of Soviet Socialists Republics (USSR) was the first case of late industrialization.
