SANTOS MELAZZO, Everaldo. URBAN LAND AND REAL ESTATE DYNAMICS. ELEMENTS FOR A CRITICAL INTERPRETATION IN BRAZIL. Semest. Econ. [online]. 2019, vol.22, n.50, pp.71-86. ISSN 0120-6346. https://doi.org/10.22395/seec.v22n50a4.
The article discusses urban land markets in the face of conditions and mechanisms of real estate dynamics, a condition for understanding the multiple roles that urban land plays in Brazil: an instrument of political and economic power, a form of detention of private wealth, and an asset capable of leveraging the capital accumulation. The necessary articulation of a political economy and a critical geography of capitalism is assumed for the apprehension of the processes that produce Brazilian cities, in particular the so-called medium sized cities. From the methodological perspective, it is argued that it is important to consider multiple geographical scales as well as the real estate historical particularities, and to denature any interpretation of urban spatiality.
