Abstract

HERNANDEZ GARCIA, Edwin Arbey  and  RAFFO LOPEZ, Leonardo. Intra-Industrial Trade and Employment Variations for the Colombian Industry, 1991-2015. Semest. Econ. [online]. 2019, vol.22, n.53, pp.21-51. ISSN 0120-6346.  https://doi.org/10.22395//seec.v22n53a2.

The aim of the research is to analyze the relationship between intra-industrial trade (IIT) and employment variations for the Colombian industry during the period 1991-2015, testing the smooth adjustment hypothesis (SAH) for the first time in Colombia. In order to achieve this, Brülhart's A index is used to measure the intra-industrial marginal trade, as well as other indices that discriminate the vertical and horizontal nature of IIT. In addition, static and dynamic panel data models are estimated. Among the main results, it was determined that the estimates are consistent with the SAH, which in terms of economic policy implies that as Colombia increases its intra-industry trade exchanges, the adjustment costs tend to be lower.
