Abstract
WELTER, Amauri; JUNGES, Camila Gabriela and STAMM, Cristiano. MEDIUM-SIZED CITIES IN PARANÁ: A STUDY ON SOCIOECONOMIC GROWTH AND DEVELOPMENT (2010-2020). Semest. Econ. [online]. 2025, vol.28, n.65, 5057. Epub Oct 27, 2025. ISSN 0120-6346. https://doi.org/10.22395/seec.v28n65a5057.
This article proposes an analysis of convergence processes in economic growth and socioeconomic development of medium-sized cities in the interior of the State of Paraná from 2010 to 2020. Interest in medium-sized cities has grown among researchers due to interurban transformations, urbanization and the implementation of local development policies, with medium-sized cities having a population ranging from 100,000 to 500,000 inhabitants. This analysis is based on convergence, related to a variation or dispersion estimated through a coefficient. Convergence consists of observing whether cities reach similar levels of income and living standards, and it may be interpreted as a positive or negative aspect. The results of the convergence analysis were obtained by estimating an Average Convergence (CP) equation based on GDP per capita. The main findings showed that, in the analyzed period, there was disparity in economic growth, with convergence only in the tertiary sector and divergence in primary and secondary sectors. Regarding socio-economic development, convergence was observed in the general indicator, in health and education indices, and divergence only in selected municipalities' employment and income index.
