Abstract

LARA RODRIGUEZ, Juan Sebastían; BARRETO BERNAL, Patricia Carolina  and  GUTIERREZ MOLINA, Oscar. The onset and establishment of a growth pole in Colombia, a story of the integrated steel industry. Rev. esc.adm.neg [online]. 2013, n.75, pp.122-139. ISSN 0120-8160.

The growth pole as a definition or theory keeps on having a unique evolution, and its implementation in Colombia has been poorly researched. This article describes its applicability, starting with the official establishment of the National Steel Company in Paz del Río, elucidating all social, economic and cultural factors that originated them. Therefore, it provides a historical and theoretical revision about the growth pole concept, contrasting its benefits and disadvantages to make clear reflections, which currently set up strategic ideas to boost the development of different regions in the country, in which the economic and managerial development is really limited.

Keywords : Colombia; Growth pole; Integrated steel industry; Economic development; Company.
