Abstract

ARAYA-CASTILLO, Luis. A suggested methodology for defining strategic groups. Rev. esc.adm.neg [online]. 2014, n.76, pp.64-77. ISSN 0120-8160.

There is no literary consensus on the methodology to be used in the identification of strategic groups. This is important as studies based on strategic groups must have practical and statistical validity. For this reason, the identification of strategic groups is done through a four-step process: 1) identifying strategic variables, 2) defining strategic dimensions, 3) validating strategic dimensions, and 4) determining strategic groups. This methodology contributes to literature because the identification of strategic groups starts with the perception of managerial strategies when defining the competitive behavior of organizations. Consequently, different methods are applied to provide statistical validity to managers´ perceptions.

Keywords : Strategic Groups; Methodology; Validity; Veliability; Multivariable techniques; Cognitive approach.
