Abstract

ARROYAVE-PUERTA, Adriana María  and  MARULANDA-VALENCIA, Flor Ángela. Eco-entrepreneurship, sustainability and generation of value. Rev. esc.adm.neg [online]. 2019, n.87, pp.155-172. ISSN 0120-8160.  https://doi.org/10.21158/01208160.n87.2019.2411.

The aim of this article is to demonstrate the relationship among the creation of sustainable companies, the care for the environment, and the generation of social and economic value by means of the analysis of the program Emprender para la Vida, which promotes eco-friendly businesses in the Valle de Aburrá, Colombia.

It is by means of using a methodology of the qualitative and quantitative type that the data from reports and in-depth interviews were obtained, in order to identify the profile of the supported entrepreneurs, the lines of intervention of the program, and the character and number of companies supported by each line, this as an input to build the value chain of the eco-enterprises.

Among the results, we can highlight that during the period 2012-2015, most of the eco-entrepreneurs were men between 25 and 35 years of age and with university training. Similarly, we found that a total of 76 initiatives were supported and that the most representative line of intervention was the management of hazardous and non-hazardous waste.

The results of the program, as well as the value chain proposal from the eco-enterprises allow us to show that in each one of the links, it is possible to make contributions to sustainability through actions such as the reduction of costs based on the rational use of water and energy or the use of substitute materials that do not affect the quality of the final product, which in turn contributes to the generation of economic value.

Keywords : eco-entrepreneurship; sustainability; social value; economic value; value chain; sustainable companies; environmental entrepreneurship.
