POSADA SALDARRIAGA, RICARDO. Hermeneutics and medicine. CES Med. [online]. 2009, vol.23, n.1, pp.103-113. ISSN 0120-8705.
Exercise diagnosis, based on a good clinical history, complete physical examination and judicious use of paraclinical tests and diagnostic images, is the most important medical procedure, and the best expression of the union of science and art of the medical profession. Interpretation of findings provided by these three acts is the key to reaching an accurate diagnosis and to define an appropriate treatment aimed to restoring patient health. It is essentially a hermeneutic art that part from dark and obscure to reach the clarity of the diagnosis. It is also the ultimate expression of the hermeneutical circle because makes understandable the whole based on its parts and clarifies them understanding the whole. The physician - patient relationship should be based on kindness, tolerance, understanding, respect and acceptance of patient differences. Medicine without love is a sterile science.
