Abstract

CASTRILLON, MAURICIO ESTRADA  and  RUIZ ZABALETA, TANIA ISABEL. Chronic recurrent multifocal osteomyelitis: case report. CES Med. [online]. 2011, vol.25, n.1, pp.109-118. ISSN 0120-8705.

Chronic recurrent multifocal osteomyelitis is an unusual inflammatory bone disease; it is a disease of children and young adults. Clinically, the disease is characterized by an insidious onset and its course is one of recurrent periods of exacerbation and remission. Histopathological, laboratory findings and bacterial culture results are usually negative or no conclusive. The diagnosis is ultimately one of exclusion after more common entities have been rule out. The definitive diagnosis is made by combination of a prolonged course, characteristic imaging findings, negative cultures and lack of response to an antimicrobial therapy.

Keywords : Chronic recurrent multifocal osteomyelitis; Chronic osteomyelitis; Children; Radiology; Colombia.
