URIBE, MARIA PAULINA  e  CARDONA-CASTRO, NORA. Mechanisms of skin adherence and invasion by dermatophytes. CES Med. [online]. 2013, vol.27, n.1, pp.67-75. ISSN 0120-8705.

Dermatophytes are known for being one of the most common pathogens that causes skin infections around the world; although its clinical spectrum and management are widely investigated their physiopathology is still unknown. There are having been multiple investigations since 20th century, but the exact mechanisms of skin adherence and invasion is not completely understood yet. The adhesion and invasion mechanisms are related with the production of specific adhesins to skin receptors, proteases, sibtilisinas, and transverse to longitudinal growth of the fungus, and the identification of the genes coding for these characteristics. Here, we present a summary of what is known until now of these mechanisms.

Palavras-chave : Tinea; Physiopathology; Keratinocytes; Mechanisms of skin adherence; Mechanisms of skin invasion.
