Resumen
RESTREPO-CANO, Gustavo Adolfo. Antenatal diagnosis of congenital anomalies. Is this policy fulfilled in Colombia?. CES Med. [online]. 2018, vol.32, n.3, pp.226-234. ISSN 0120-8705. https://doi.org/10.21615/cesmedicina.32.3.4.
Objective:
To carry out a reflection article about the impact of the prenatal ultrasound screening programs for congenital malformations, to reflect on the low detection rates in our country and propose some factors that could contribute to its improvement.
Methodology:
An electronic search was carried out in PubMed, Hinari, Cochrane and other health websites. We included articles that met the inclusion criteria describing the use of antenatal ultrasound for the detection of congenital malformations, as well as those related to detection rates in Colombia and the world.
Results and conclusion:
The implementation of antenatal ultrasound diagnosis of congenital alterations improves the detection rates of congenital malformations. In our public health system, these do not exceed 35 %, despite the fact that there is a clinical guide proposed by the Ministerio de la Protección Social in 2013, which suggests that this policy has not been adequately implemented in health care institutions.
