Abstract

MARQUEZ BENITEZ, Yusselfy et al. Influence of environmental temperature in the mosquito Aedes spp and the transmission of the dengue virus. CES Med. [online]. 2019, vol.33, n.1, pp.42-50. ISSN 0120-8705.  https://doi.org/10.21615/cesmedicina.33.1.5.

This review presents Aedes, the most relevant insect genus in relation to the transmission of viral pathogens: dengue, zika, chikungunya, yellow fever, among others. This vector has a rapid rate of development and high survival, which might vary in response to many biotic and abiotic factors of environment. Among the latter is the temperature, which can exert a considerable influence on vectorial capacity, since it affects the dynamics of the mosquito population, the kinetics of the biological cycle, the immune response against the dengue virus, among other aspects. This knowledge can be useful in achieving better projections of the effects of climate change on the incidence of dengue, as well as achieving early detection of possible epidemic outbreaks that allow the timely planning of a rapid and effective response to achieve the reduction and control of the disease.

Keywords : Aedes; Dengue virus; Arbovirus; Mosquito vectors; Temperature.
