Abstract

OVIEDO LUGO, Gabriel Fernando  and  PARRA SANCHEZ, Katherine. Catatonia in the hospital: A case description. Acta Neurol Colomb. [online]. 2010, vol.26, n.4, pp.222-227. ISSN 0120-8748.

Since its initial description by Kahlbaum over a century ago, catatonia has been associated with psychiatric, neurologic, and medical disorders. Contemporary authors view catatonia as a syndrome of motor signs in association with disorders of mood, behavior, or thought. The objective in the following case report is to discuss a 21-year-old man who presented with a previous diagnosis of schizophrenia- disorganized type. We hope to highlight some key points in the diagnosis and management of this complex neuropsychiatric syndrome.

Keywords : Catatonia; Diagnosis; Psychiatry.
