Abstract

RODRIGUEZ PARRA, Vladimir et al. Intramedullary capillary hemangioma. Acta Neurol Colomb. [online]. 2013, vol.29, n.2, pp.112-117. ISSN 0120-8748.

Intramedullary capillary hemangiomas are common benign tumors in different locations; however, only 7 cases with involvement of central nervous system have been previously reported and near 20 cases with involvement of the central nervous system have been described. We report a 16 year old male who developed to cervical pain and muscle spasms. The magnetic resonance imaging revealed the presence of a cervical spinal cord injury suggesting a neoplastic lesion with a significant vascular component. The spinal cord lesion was resected and no extramedullary compromise was observed. Histopathological and immunohistochemical examinations confirmed the diagnosis of a capillary hemangioma.Only few cases of intramedullary capillary hemangiomas have been published, it is believed that there is an important under register. This condition represents a benign pathology with a good prognosis. Radiotherapy and chemotherapy is not required in this cases.

Keywords : intramedullary capillary hemangioma; paresis; sensory deficit.
