Patients who survive an acquired brain injury can experience alterations in cognitive processing. Neuropsychological rehabilitation is a discipline centered on the intervention of such deficits through restitution techniques and cognitive impairment compensation based on neuroplasticity concept. This therapy has been traditionally applied in subacute and chronic phases of neurological injury; however, in the last decade it has been proposed to initiate neuropsychological rehabilitation during acute phases, with inpatients. It is centered in attenuating symptoms from this stage through different techniques to stimulate orientation and attention. This paper has a description of psychological rehabilitation procedures during the actue phase of acquired brain injury, as well as their objectives, scope, applicability, adverse factors and efficacy. That therapy can be applied in local grounds, and neuropsychological consultation is essential for inpatient treatment, for cognitive-behavioral analysis, neuropsychological interventions programs design and counseling patient's family.
