TIRADO-PEREZ, Irina Suley; GUZMAN-CORENA, Ángel Alfonso; MORENO-BENITEZ, Adriana  and  ZARATE-VERGARA, Andrea Carolina. Herpetic encephalitis in pediatrics: case report. Acta Neurol Colomb. [online]. 2017, vol.33, n.1, pp.12-15. ISSN 0120-8748.  https://doi.org/10.22379/24224022124.

Introduction: Herpetic encephalitis is an acute or subacute disease that causes general and focal signs of cerebral dysfunction.

We present a case of herpes simplex encephalitis in a given low frequency presented at the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit Doña Pilar, Children's Hospital Napoléon Franco Pareja.

Despite advances in antiviral therapy during the past 2 decades, herpes encephalitis remains a serious disease with significant risk of morbidity and death. One third of cases of herpes simplex encephalitis occur in children, sequelae among survivors are significant and depend on the age and neurological status of the patient at the time of diagnosis.
