MORENO, Eder; RODRIGUEZ, Jaime  e  BAYONA-ORTIZ, Hernán. Intravenous thrombolysis as treatment of acute ischemic stroke in Colombia: a systematic review of literature. Acta Neurol Colomb. [online]. 2019, vol.35, n.3, pp.156-166. ISSN 0120-8748.  https://doi.org/10.22379/24224022262.

INTRODUCTION:

Ischemic stroke is the leading cause of disability and the third cause of death, timely use of rt-PA can improve prognosis.

OBJECTIVES:

To know the experience of centers about the use of thrombolytic therapy for stroke in Colombia. To establish attention gaps and opportunities for improvement.

METHODS:

A systematic review was made using Google, Google Scholar, Pubmed, Scielo, as well as other sources of gray literature for publications on thrombolysis in Colombia. With an analysis of the quality of the studies, as well as a record of attention times, scales used and outcome measures.

RESULTS:

Six studies were obtained at the end, with 179 subjects who received thrombolysis. All the studies met the minimum quality requirements for publication. A total number of patients per year between 7.5 to 12. The shortest study period was 2 years and the longest was 8 years. Among 4 cities found, it was established that a total of 30 patients / year received the treatment. In only two studies was possible to establish the percentage of thrombolysis patients in their population that ranged from 9.5 to 17.5 %. The average Door to Needle Time for the studies was 124.8 minutes (SD ± 64.1). After 90 days, an average of 58.3 % of modified Rankin scale was obtained between 0-2 points.

CONCLUSION:

There is an underreporting of thrombolysis in Colombia. It is necessary to have a national registry of stroke that allows us having the information for decision making in health policies.
