Resumen

ARANGO JARAMILLO, Esteban. Patient with short-lasting headaches without autonomic symptoms in the emergency department. Acta Neurol Colomb. [online]. 2020, vol.36, n.4, suppl.1, pp.43-46.  Epub 14-Mayo-2021. ISSN 0120-8748.  https://doi.org/10.22379/24224022317.

Short-lasting headaches without autonomic symptoms is an heterogenous group of headache disorders that do not share a common physiopathology. They are a frequent cause of concern among patients and emergency physicians. Given the high burden they represent to the healthcare system and the poor knowledge in the subject among healthcare professionals, in the following pages the most common types of short lasting headaches without autonomic symptoms are reviewed, including their classification criteria, common worrisome pathologic associations and recommended diagnostic and therapeutic interventions. The goal of this review is giving the general practitioner in the emergency department a set of tools for an adequate approach to decrease anxiety and suffering to patients, and to avoid unnecessary use of system resources.

Palabras clave : headache; cough (MeSH).
