Abstract

ROCHA-BUELVAS, Anderson  and  JOJOA PUMALPA, Alexander. Dental Management of oral complications secondary to cancer treatment with chemotherapy and radiotherapy. CES odontol. [online]. 2011, vol.24, n.2, pp.71-78. ISSN 0120-971X.

A review of the literature is presented with the aim to documenting the importance of dental management of oral complications secondary to cancer treatment with chemotherapy and radiotherapy; these are used either as mono therapy or in mixed treatments as an adjunct to surgery and/or as a palliative therapy for advanced tumors. There are not many studies reported on the subject, which are primarily protocols adopted by each country and its institutions. Most research has focused on preventive and curative methods with limited results. A review of the current literature was carried out in indexed data bases through a boolean search with minimal results in national publications while at a Latin American level results where limited to Brazil.

Keywords : Chemotherapy; Radiation; Side effects; oral cavity; Dental treatment; Xerostomia osteoradionecrosis; Mucositis.
