Resumen

ANGEL, Luis Alberto  y  FAJARDO, Luisa. Efecto protector del consumo del ají en la frecuencia de trastornos funcionales del tubo digestivo. Rev Col Gastroenterol [online]. 2005, vol.20, n.4, pp.5-24. ISSN 0120-9957.

AIMS. To establish the association of prevalence and severity of functional gastrointestinal disorders (FGID) to chili ingestion. SUBJECTS AND METHODS. Screening transversal descriptive study and chili ingestion characterization. RESULTS. The global prevalence was 24,3% for functional ulcer dyspepsia (FUD), 27%, for functional constipation (FC), 13,7% for functional reflux (FR), 22,8% for dismotility type dyspepsia (DTD) and 17,5% for irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). The prevalence were reduced with Chili consumption for DTD (17%, p=0,0082), IBS (12%, p=0,0099) and abdominal pain severity (p=0,00001). The FUD and FR frequency were inversely related to quantity and potency of chili ingested (p<0,016). CONCLUSIONS. The FGID prevalence was similar to literature reports. The prevalence of DTD and IBS and abdominal pain severity were reduced by chronic chili consumption. The effect was potency and quantity dependent for FR and FUD.
