Resumen

GOMEZ, Martín; OTERO, William  y  GUTIERREZ, Óscar. Treatment of Helicobacter pylori infection. A survey in a group of generalists medical and specialists in Colombia. Rev Col Gastroenterol [online]. 2007, vol.22, n.1, pp.7-16. ISSN 0120-9957.

A survey about H. pylori infection treatment was done in 9 cities from Colombia. Answers were obtained from 648 physicians (68% General Practitioners, 19% Internal Medicine specialists and 13% Gastroenterologists). Conditions in which H. pylori was treated were gastric (91%) and duodenal ulcer (79%) and non ulcer dyspepsia (49.5%). The most common antibiotics prescribed were amoxycillin (73%), clarythromycin (57%) and metronidazole ( 37%) and the preferred schemes were a triple therapy with a Proton Pump Inhibitor plus Amoxicillin and either clarythromycin (34%) or Metronidazole (20.5%). Duration of treatment was specially 10 (19%) or 14 days (44%). In agreement with international statements, results show that gastroenterologists and in a second place internists doctors have the best knowledge about indications and treatment schedule to choice for H. pylori eradication. An interesting finding was the lack of treatment of the majority of duodenal ulcer cases and the exaggerate number of schedules used. Also the wide tendency of metronidazole prescription in spite of frequent resistance; on the contrary there were few physicians treating with active drugs as bismuth salts and furazolidone. It calls a task to improve the current information about H. pylori treatment and its diseases, particularly among general practitioners, charge of the primary care of our patients.

Palabras clave : Helicobacter; duodenal ulcera; amoxicillyn; metronidazole; ppi.
