Celiac disease (CD) is an autoimmune enteropathy affecting the small intestine in genetically predisposed children and adults, triggered by the ingestion of gluten-containing foods. It is usually associated to other immunological diseases. Due to the relation between anticardiolipin antibodies and lupus anticoagulation inhibitor with immunological diseases, a study was performed to determinate the prevalence of these antibodies, comparing their prevalence in the general population. It was taken into account the existence of venous or arterial thrombosis and repetitive miscarriage. 30 celiac patients were evaluated, 25 women and 5 men. Only one had the anticardiolipin antibody positive. None of them had thrombotic or miscarriage background. It was concluded that the prevalence of ACA and AL in celiac patients is not higher than in the general population, and it was not even possible to demonstrate an association with an antiphospholipid syndrome.
