Resumen

ZAMORANO, Carolina  y  FUENTES, Cilia L.. Allelopathic potential of Brassica campestris subsp. rapa and Lolium temulentum regarding tomato seed germination. Agron. colomb. [online]. 2005, vol.23, n.2, pp.256-260. ISSN 0120-9965.

Bioassays were carried out for evaluating the allelopathic potential of 10, 25, 50, and 100 g. L-1 aqueous and methanolic concentrations of turnip (Brassica campestris subsp. rapa) and ryegrass (Lolium temulentum) leaf extracts in pre-germinated tomato seeds in the Universidad Nacional de Colombia’s Weed Science laboratory. Germination percentage and shoot and root elongation were measured; elongation and germination inhibition were also calculated. Results did not reveal any effects of the extracts (10, 25, 50 and 100 g. L-1) on tomato seed germination. Aqueous turnip extracts were seen to stimulate tomato root elongation at 10 g. L-1 and be detrimental at 25 to 100 g. L-1. DC50 was 44 and 49 g. L-1 for root and shoot elongation, respectively. Methanolic turnip extracts reduced tomato root elongation as extract concentration increased. Ryegrass extract effect on tomato root elongation response was similar regarding the two solvents (aqueous and methanolic); it became reduced by 40% at concentrations of 10 to 100 g. L-1; DC50 calculated for aqueous extract root elongation was 10 g. L-1.

Palabras clave : Lycopersicon esculentum; allelopathy; extract.
