ALVAREZ, Javier Giovanni; LUENGAS, Carlos Alberto  e  TORRES, Jaime. Effect of applying irrigation water to different temperatures and frequencies on saline Andean soil treated with electric current. Agron. colomb. [online]. 2005, vol.23, n.2, pp.327-333. ISSN 0120-9965.

This work was carried out in the Universidad Nacional de Colombia's Soil laboratory to study a saline soil's response to irrigation water being applied having different temperature and frequency treatments. The soil used was a Humic Haplustands taken from lot 4 on the Marengo Farm Centre. A totally random experimental design used a 3 x 2 factorial arrangement, the first factor being irrigation water temperature (18, 23 and 30 °C) and the second dividing the irrigation water up (partial and total applied water). 2 V direct current was applied to all treatments. The variables analysed for each treatment were pH, electric conductivity, sulphates, chlorides, carbonates, bicarbonates and total bases (Ca, Mg, Na, K) measured in saturation extract before and after applying the treatments. The results led to concluding that the greatest reduction in Ca and Mg content was presented when irrigation water was 30 °C. There was no response to changes of temperature in the other variables measured. Applying 2 V direct current significantly reduced Ca, Mg, Na, K and Cl content, as well as electric conductivity values. None of the variables presented a response regarding frequency of applying irrigation water.
