Abstract

The main conceptual approaches explaining company internationalisation. Agron. colomb. [online]. 2006, vol.24, n.1, pp.170-181. ISSN 0120-9965.

The present document gives a bibliographical review of the most important contributions made towards companies’ internationalisation regarding decision-making being supported by organisations undergoing this process, illustrating aspects related to how companies internationalise their capital. Export strategies are studied, as are organisational hierarchy options, markets as particular institutions (as coordination mechanisms) and the role of hierarchy-market organisational hybrids. An attempt is made to conceptually identify how each of these theoretical elements’ different options and advantages can contribute towards understanding company internationalisation from an economic and process standpoint.

Keywords : transaction costs; Uppsala approach; eclectic theory; internalisation theory.
