Abstract

In order to provide recognition of herbaceous plants associated with culture of cape gooseberry (Physalis peruviana L.), the study was undertaken in 49 production systems located in 12 municipalities of Cundinamarca and Boyacá, Colombia. The abundance and frequency of species was estimated through the sampling or censuses, so that the study covered plants grown in all thermal conditions of these municipalities. The first stage of recognition was carried out in seven municipalities of Cundinamarca and the second one was done in five municipalities of Boyacá. In the production systems of cape gooseberry, various associated species were registered and collected on a minimum sampling area that was determined for all species according to their growth area. The obtained results indicated presence of 21 families, 40 genera, and 47 species, where the eight families concentrated 72% species. In Cundinamarca, the most frequently found species were Polygonum nepalense and Rumex crispus and, in the department of Boyacá, these were Pennisetum clandestinum and P. nepalense. By altitudinal category, the main species were P nepalense, P. clandestinum and Raphanus raphanistrum (categories I, II, and III, respectively). Category III included eight of the main weed species associated with cape gooseberry culture and had a frequency value superior to 40% total registered species. The species of highest danger for the culture of cape gooseberry were Polygonum nepalense and Rumex crispus.
