Abstract

ZAMORANO, Carolina; LOPEZ, Holman  and  ALZATE, Gustavo. Evaluation of weed competition on green pea crop (Pisum sativum) in Fusagasugá, Cundinamarca (Colombia). Agron. colomb. [online]. 2008, vol.26, n.3, pp.443-450. ISSN 0120-9965.

Competition is one of the types of interference that frequently occurs in agricultural systems; however, there are few documents related to the pea crop in Colombia. In order to assess the effect of weed competition in pea crop the pea seeds, Santa Isabel variety, were used under a tutoring system and with a density of 133.333 plants/ha in a randomized blocks design with six weed free periods. We determined percentage of weed coverage through botanical categories and variable crop yield of peas under weed free periods. The percentage of weed species coverage was higher for plants in class Magnoliopsidae, which had the highest number of species identified, with a total of 20, compared with 4 species of the family Poaceae and 1 of Cyperaceae. There was no significant difference in crop yields without weeds for 30, 45 and 60 days. The differences in the number of grains and weight of pods were not significant between treatments, but the weights of fresh and dried grains were significant.

Keywords : weeds; interference; Santa Isabel; yield components; espalier.
