Abstract

GUATIBONZA, Mauricio; ALVAREZ-HERRERA, Javier Giovanni  and  SANABRIA, Julián Enrique. Spatial distribution of hydraulic conductivity in a plot at Tunguavita farm (Paipa, Colombia). Agron. colomb. [online]. 2009, vol.27, n.2, pp.261-271. ISSN 0120-9965.

Due to its influence on agricultural exploitations, hydraulic conductivity is considered one of the most relevant hydric properties of soil. It is directly related to the structural and textural features of cultivated lands, which in turn result from their soil formation and management processes. For this reason, the geostatistical evaluation of these properties is very important in the study of hydraulic conductivity. In the present work, real density, dry and moist apparent densities, pore percentage, aeration, gravimetric, volumetric and saturation moisture contents, and void ratio were assessed by sampling 110 soil plots in a field of 29 ha at Tunguavita farm (Paipa, Boyaca), which belongs to Universidad Pedagógica y Tecnologica de Colombia. The data were then analyzed with a geostatistical methodology, in order to determine the spatial distribution of the studied properties, and the relation they hold with hydraulic conductivity. Thirteen semivariograms and 10 spatial distribution maps of the studied variables were obtained. Hydraulic conductivity was observed to range from low to very low values, influenced by high apparent densities and low pore percentages. The evaluated physical properties showed strong to moderate spatial dependency, and the semivariogram data ranged from 22.5 to 242 m.
