Abstract
CARDONA-ARIAS, Jaiberth Antonio; GIRALDO, Elizabeth and MAYA, María Antonia. Associated factors with health-related quality of life of elderly from a colombian municipality, 2013. Medicas UIS [online]. 2016, vol.29, n.1, pp.17-27. ISSN 0121-0319. https://doi.org/10.18273/revmed.v29n1-2016002.
Introduction: research in health-related quality of life in aged in Colombia is meager and most focus on profiles of morbidity or quality of life from the perspective of the material conditions of life. Objective: to identify the associated factors with health-related quality of life of elderly in a Colombian municipality. Methods: a cross-sectional study of 191 individuals selected probabilistically. The World Health Organization Quality Of Life-BREF and a survey were applied. Analyses were performed in SPSS 21.0® with descriptive statistics, nonparametric tests and linear regression, controlling information and selection bias. Results: the median age was 68 years old; 50% were female, 56% rural, 64 % of the middle social stratum, 23% still works. The scores of health-related quality of life were greater than 50. The associated factors with quality of life were in physical health: educative level, marital status, family support and hospitalization; in psychological health: age, area of residence, marital status, educative level, economic and family satisfaction, and disease; in social relations: age, marital status, family support and marijuana use, in environment: economic and family satisfaction, presence of disease, sex and consumption of snuff. Conclusions: health-related quality of life was good, this shows that the older adult is not a stage of unfailing dependence and deterioration. The diversity in the factors associated with health-related quality of life demonstrate the need for studies in each context as a basis for the health planning, to do evaluation in health and to formulate subsequent actions.
