CAMARGO-ARIZA, William Alejandro; GALVIS-BLANCO, Silvia Juliana; GUALDRON-RINCON, Édgar Felipe e PALMEZANO-DIAZ, Jorge Mario. Cardiovascular and metabolic disease in patients with human immunodeficiency virus infection. Medicas UIS [online]. 2017, vol.30, n.2, pp.45-54. ISSN 0121-0319. https://doi.org/10.18273/revmed.v30n2-2017005.
Since the introduction of antiretroviral therapy, morbidity and mortality associated with Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome has drastically decreased and human immunodeficiency virus infection has become a chronic disease. However, with the introduction of antiretroviral treatment for the control of the disease, an increase in the prevalence of cardiovascular disease in this group has been observed, making this a reason of particular concern. Consequently, the evaluation and prevention of cardiovascular disease has become of paramount importance and should be evaluated individually and routinely in these patients. The objective of this article is to make a review of the main cardiovascular and metabolic complications in order to objectify the possible findings that the clinician faces at the moment of an integral approach to the seropositive patient for human immunodeficiency virus.
