The knowledge of the characteristics of these patients is essential to improvement the conditions of the patients. The knowledge of the characteristics of these patients is necessary to establish the most appropriate treatment.

Objective:

to determine the sociodemographic and clinical characteristics of patients with cardiovascular risk at an outpatient care institution in Antioquia, Colombia, between 2015 and 2016.

Methods:

cross-sectional study, without age restriction, who used at least one medication for hypertension, diabetes, dyslipidemia or cardiovascular prophylaxis in patients of the cardiovascular risk program at Hospital San Vicente de Paúl of Caldas Antioquia.

Results:

the study included 157 patients, with a mean age of 61.5 (SD 13.5). 76.4% were female, 43.9% lived with partners and 76.4% had a low educational level. 96.8% were hypertensive, 45.9% had dyslipidemia, 13.4% smoked, 10.8% consumed alcoholic beverages and 58.6% were physically active. 44.6% presented high cardiovascular risk, 43.3% low and 11.5% moderate. 80.3% were controlled for their blood pressure, and the presence of dyslipidemia was present in 45.9%, 43.3% of patients were adherent to drug therapy and 15.9% had at least one adverse drug reaction. Conclusion: the high proportion of patients with blood pressure values in normal ranges predominated, but presenting moderate global cardiovascular risk, which indicates the need for continuity of promotion and prevention programs in CVR factors.
