Abstract

ELKIN, SIERRA. The contrast between Japanese and Spanish accent. Cuad. linguist. hisp. [online]. 2016, n.27, pp.33-56. ISSN 0121-053X.

Spanish has a long history in Japan; since the times in which Spanish Catholic Church taught Spanish in Japan in order to convert Japanese people to the Catholic faith, to current times, in which Hispanic American culture and business with Spanish-speaking countries has prevailed. However, there is not a great number of linguistic studies centered on Spanish and Japanese. The objective of this work is to reflect upon the difference in the Spanish and Japanese accents and how this phenomenon may cause difficulties for the perception of the Spanish lexical accent for the Japanese speakers who are studying Spanish as a Foreign Language.

Keywords : accent; perception; pitch; acoustic correlate; delay; syllable.
