DIAZ HERNANDEZ, DIANA P. e BURGOS HERRERA, LUIS CARLOS. HOW IS GLUCOSE TRANSPORTED THROUGH CELL MEMBRANE?. Iatreia [online]. 2002, vol.15, n.3, pp.179-189. ISSN 0121-0793.
GLUCOSE IS THE MAIN ENERGY SUPPLY for the cell and requires a transport protein to enter through cell membranes. Two monosacharid transport systems have been described: SGLT (sodium-glucose transporters) and GLUT (glucose transporters). In this article we review the main molecular, biochemical and functional characteristics of these monosacharid transporters.
