Abstract

ESCOBAR GONIMA, CARLOS. CLASSIFICATION IN MEDICINE ARBITRARITY AND UNNECCESSARY SUBJECTS. Iatreia [online]. 2003, vol.16, n.4, pp.319-323. ISSN 0121-0793.

ALTHOUGH CLASSIFICATION IN MEDICINE is a proven tool useful in the understanding and management of illnesses since antiquity, nowadays there is a tendency to overestimate its role in diagnosis and treatment. The author considers that aspects such as cultural, philosophical, and medical reasons should be appraised from a local perspective to avoid the very common mistake of practicing a medicine based on factors that are only functional when applied in the locality of origin.

Keywords : MEDICAL CLASSIFICATIONS; HISTORY OF THE MEDICINA.
