With the increase of preterm births, actually is common to have the challenge of feeding premature. This is a complex task, because it is the integration and coordination of multiple systems. The ability to obtain early oral nutrition needs without compromising cardiorespiratory function is key in determining hospitalization length and activities to be recommended after discharge. Success involves the ability to take all the prescribed volume by suction within a given time and to maintain a sustained pattern of weight gain. Security involves proper coordination of the functions of sucking, swallowing and breathing. The purpose of this review based on the critical reading of the literature is to analyze what is the process that develops premature to reach efficient oral feeding, as well as aspects that may modify this process from their own health, such as respiratory disorders, cardiovascular, intestinal and neurological own premature.
