COTE-PENA, Claudia Patricia; CORTES-AGUILAR, Alexandra  e  CARDENAS, Greissly. Gender equity in healthcare workers: a systematic literature review. Rev. Univ. Ind. Santander. Salud [online]. 2024, vol.56, e24025.  Epub 21-Mar-2024. ISSN 0121-0807.  https://doi.org/10.18273/saluduis.56.e:24025.

Introduction:

The healthcare sector represents one of the most feminized economic activities, however, there are wide gender gaps between workers in the sector.

Objective:

This paper seeks to characterize and identify the obstacles present in the health sector to achieve gender equality.

Methods:

For this, a systematic review of literature was carried out in which 52 studies were compiled using different repositories and bibliographic databases.

Results:

Results show that, although women represent most health personnel in the world, they present obstacles to reaching leadership positions, equal remuneration, receiving recognition and support, accessing certain specialties, among other aspects.

Discussion:

Women's participation in the labor market alone is not enough to achieve equality. It is necessary to have institutional support, transform the culture within organizations and highlight the importance of the gender perspective in all areas, proposing concrete measures to address existing disparities.
