CASTANEDA, Felipe. MAJOR CONFLICTS AND CONCEPTS OF HISTORY: THE CASES OF AGUSTÍN DE HIPONA, BARTOLOMÉ DE LAS CASAS, AND IMMANUEL KANT. hist.crit. [online]. 2004, n.27, pp.91-110. ISSN 0121-1617.

There are events that can question the concept of valid reality to the extent to which it becomes impossible to assimilate them based on the valué system and categories of thought that are normally used. The fall of Rome in the year 410, the discovery and conquest of America, as well as the French Revolution would be events of mis type. Part of the effort to make them reasonable has consisted of formulating new ways of conceiving of history in general. The essay deals with mis topic in order to show the way in which said events have conditioned philosophical proposals regarding the concept of history in the work of Agustín de Hipona, Bartolomé de Las Casas, and Immanuel Kant. Furthermore, it suggests that the explanation of different concepts of history implies going over the study of the respective world concepts on which they are grounded.

Palavras-chave : philosophy of history; agustín; las casas; kant; city of god; historie apologetics; ideas for a universal history.
