Alphabetic writing of Judeo-Christian origin, like any other tool for the construction and transmission of knowledge, has its origins in specific socio-cultural and temporal-space contexts. In the case of the West, for centuries it has been used mostly in hegemonic masculine spheres. In this sense, this article suggests that although feminist studies in disciplines like history, have made priceless contributions to recovering the history of women, it is also important to review the technologies on which their work has been based. These technologies seem to have been tainted by androcentric and anthropocentric perspectives. The article also argues that non-written sources are important not only for the illiterate, but also to make visible the daily life of literate hegemonic sectors from a more feminine and less Eurocentric viewpoint .
