RESTREPO MEJIA, Isabela. Sovereignty of the people during the Era of Independence , 1810-1815 . hist.crit. [online]. 2005, n.29, pp.101-123. ISSN 0121-1617.
The year 1808 marked a profound renewal in the entire Spanish monarchy regarding the principles of sovereignty of the people and political representation. In the face of the vacatio regio, the provinces of Nueva Granada reassumed sovereignty and established provisional governments in 1810. As of 1811, these provinces became states that would later declare their independence from Spain . The territorial multiplication' of sovereignty led to difficulty in constructing a general government, which in turn would threaten to dismember the kingdom and finally led to its break-up in a war that would last until the arrival of Pablo Morillo and the Reconquista.
