Abstract

GONZALEZ ARANA, Roberto  and  MONSALVO MENDOZA, Edwin. FROM THE SUPREME JUNTA DE GOBIERNO TO THE SOVEREIGN STATE: THE INDEPENDENCE OF CARTAGENA DE INDIAS (1810-1812). hist.crit. [online]. 2010, n.41, pp.62-85. ISSN 0121-1617.

This work describes the path followed by the Cartagena Junta from its formation to its declaration of independence. It aims to show what factors conditioned its creation and then the maintenance of governability in the midst of the metropolitan political crisis. As an hypothesis, it suggests that the Junta maintained its loyalty to the Council and the Courts until the moment in which the latter did not recognize it. The Cartagena Junta's decision to declare its independence, therefore, was a reaction to the rejection of its petitions.

Keywords : Independence; Junta de Gobierno; Cadiz Courts; State; Cartagena.
