This article explores the pedagogic function of a group of modern social practices that arose in the United States of Colombia during the 1860s and 1870s. Investigating the efforts by various political associations to form voters highlights some of the main resources used by these organizations to educate their followers in political and voting practices that abided by the principles of modern politics. Although the reach of such efforts was limited, they had a significant impact on the process of political modernization in the country.
