Abstract

PDGORNY, Irina. PAPER FRONTIERS: ARCHIVES, COLLECTIONS, AND THE QUESTION OF LIMITS IN NATIONS OF THE AMERICAS. hist.crit. [online]. 2011, n.44, pp.56-79. ISSN 0121-1617.

This article analyzes various intellectual practices tied to the use of public and private documents in the practice of history in Argentina over the second half of the nineteenth century. Starting from the "question of limits," this essay analyzes the work of bibliophiles Manuel Ricardo Trelles and Juan Martín Leguizamón, both of whom tried to historically reconstruct the territorial unity of Argentina. It shows how this work lies at the crossroads of antiquarian studies, History, and Natural History.

Keywords : Archive histories; studies of limits; antiquarianism; Argentina; nineteenth century.
