Abstract

Este artículo explora la relación entre la bacteriología y la geografía médica del siglo xix en Colombia, siguiendo el caso de las fiebres. Explica cómo la historiografía ha abordado la relación entre bacteriología y geografía médica y analiza dicha relación en las investigaciones médicas sobre fiebre amarilla, fiebres del Magdalena y malaria de la década de 1880. Finalmente, muestra que en vez de incorporar pasivamente la bacteriología, los médicos lucharon por conciliarla con la geografía médica, introduciendo elementos de ambos enfoques, manteniéndolos en tensión o rechazando alguno en favor de otro.
