Abstract

This article covers the topics of body, health, and illness in the slaves of the New Kingdom of Granada during the 18th century. It analyzes the main diseases which affected this part of the population as a result of their work in the mines, estates, and as domestic workers. The objective is to show that health and disease were linked to the social and cultural conditions of the urban and rural areas inhabited by slave population, as well as to the way the Spanish Empire handled them politically.
