Resumen

ZUBIZARRETA, Ignacio. The Anti-Rosist Lodges: An Analysis of Two Secret Groups that Attempted to Overthrow Juan Manuel de Rosas, 1835-1840. hist.crit. [online]. 2015, n.55, pp.19-43. ISSN 0121-1617.  https://doi.org/10.7440/histcrit55.2015.02.

This article analyzes the trajectory of two secret organizations that were formed between 1835 and 1840. The first appeared in Uruguay and the second in Buenos Aires, and both were created for the purpose of overthrowing the regime of Juan Manuel de Rosas in Argentina. Despite the fact that neither was completely successful in achieving said objective, the article aims to reveal their strategies, their communication systems, their plans and the internal relations among their members. The conclusion is that these lodges played a determining role in the complex machinery of opposition since they constituted an important component in the persistent drive to oust Rosas, which would not be completely successful until the battle that finally liquidated him in Caseros (1852).
