Abstract

CASTRO LEAL**, Ernesto. The Russian Revolution of October 1917 and the Beginning of the Communist Regime: Aspects of its Public Reception and Political Dynamics in Portugal (1917-1926). hist.crit. [online]. 2017, n.64, pp.39-60. ISSN 0121-1617.  https://doi.org/10.7440/histcrit64.2017.03.

How did the Russian Revolution of October 1917 affect the political and ideological mentality in Portugal? What images of Soviet Russia were transmitted by the first political and intellectual travelers? These are the questions that this article aims to solve. With respect to methodology, after a review of the bibliography, the study focuses on a critical analysis of primary bibliographical sources (political and literary texts) and on certain historical dynamics. By way of conclusion, it shows the confrontation between politics of memory (communism, anticommunism) and the dissemination of new, postrevolutionary experiences (symbols, politics, education, spirituality, society), in the works of the first travelers.

Keywords : Portugal; Russia; communism; collective memory,; revolution.
