MACHUCA GALLEGOS, Laura Olivia. Between Yucatán and Nueva Granada: Two Spaces Connected by Benito Pérez Valdelomar, 1811-1813. hist.crit. [online]. 2018, n.70, pp.87-107. ISSN 0121-1617.  https://doi.org/10.7440/histcrit70.2018.05.

Benito Pérez Valdelomar was one of the last viceroys of Nueva Granada. Before that, he had served as the governor and intendant of Yucatán, where he was responsible for securing a certain stability in that region. This article discusses only three years of his career, between 1811 and 1813, when he moved from the one place to the other. It seeks to show how this key figure and his career and his relations may illustrate the political situation in different jurisdictional spaces, which, despite pertaining to the Spanish monarchy, had different developments and responses to global processes. Pérez is an example of the contradiction which many officials experienced in that transitional period, torn, as they were, between loyalty to the king and unexpected changes they were not prepared for.
