Abstract

SERRATO TOBON, David Andrés; FLOREZ GARCIA, Luis Carlos; TIBAQUIRA, Juan Esteban  and  RESTREPO, Álvaro. CFD Analysis of the Non-premixed Combustion of H 2 Previous to the Study of Syngas Combustion Produced by Biomass Gasification. rev. cienc. [online]. 2018, vol.22, n.2, pp.89-107. ISSN 0121-1935.  https://doi.org/10.25100/rc.v22i2.7922.

This study is a before handed approach to the analysis of combustion of “syngas” into the combustion chamber of a microturbine coupled to a power generation system SOFC-MGT (Solid Oxide Fuel Cell - Micro turbine), to which a gasifier unit is integrated. It is assumed that the fuel gas is hydrogen that enters to the combustion chamber in proportion with an inertial gas such as nitrogen under conditions of 300 K and 1 atm. The main purpose of this study focused on the evaluation of the fluctuation of the adiabatic flame temperature, and the molar fractions of the species for combustion products with respect to changes in the rate of equivalency for the combustion in order to categorize the behaviour of the combustion with variations in the chemical composition of the gas due to the difference in the composition of the biomass to be studied: rice husk, coffee husk, and palm oil shell. For equivalence ratios near to the stoichiometric proportion, an error of 0.9 % was estimated. Additionally, it was found that the adiabatic flame temperature, molar fractions of N2 and O2 were higher and the molar fraction of H2O was lower for equivalence ratios ø < 1, than the values calculated based on a chemical species balance.

Keywords : adiabatic flame temperature; combustion; combustor; computational fluid dynamics; hydrogen; species transport.
