Abstract

CARVAJAL SANCHEZ, Nohora Inés. Ascending and Descending Approaches to Territorial Ordering in Colombia. Cuad. Geogr. Rev. Colomb. Geogr. [online]. 2011, vol.20, n.1, pp.21-28. ISSN 0121-215X.

The article examines the ascending and descending approaches to territorial ordering in Colombia, on the basis of a qualitative methodology that combines the comprehension of texts and actors through interviews and documentary sources with direct observation. It then goes on to analyze critically the differences between the logic of the organizing and modernizing State and culturalist logic. The former is grounded in the imitation of decontextualized models of "developed" countries, while the latter constructs territory through the vindication of identity or the claim for rights enforcement on the part of social actors. Finally, the article sets forth some of the challenges faced by territorial organization in Colombia.

Keywords : culturalist logic; modern models; social actors Colombia; territorial ordering.
