Abstract

PACHECO GIL, Henry Antonio. The Index of Potential Erosion in the Northern Slope of Waraira Repano, State of Vargas (Venezuela). Cuad. Geogr. Rev. Colomb. Geogr. [online]. 2012, vol.21, n.2, pp.85-97. ISSN 0121-215X.

The potential erosion index was obtained through the processing of rainfall, soil, and temperature data. Raster images with a spatial resolution of 100 meters were generated using the IDW interpolation method (Inverse Distance Weighted), as well as the Fournier-Arnoldus (FI), Bagnouls-Gaussen (BGI) and MUSLE principles. The erosivity index of the area ranks between very high and high. The low organic matter content and altitudinal location appear to be the determinant factors. The abundant formation of clouds and the increase in the amount of precipitation due to orographic efects generates a very high erosivity.

Keywords : Bagnouls-Gaussen; potential erosion; Fournier; MUSLE; GIS; Waraira Repano.
